The children went on their first visit to Muswell Hill Library. We will now take the children to the library weekly to join in with Toddler read and Rhyme time the children are all very excited. Doing weekly trips to the library will also support the children’s development in the following ways;
Communication & Language
• Joins in with repeated refrains and anticipates key events and phrases in rhymes and stories.
• Understands more complex sentences, e.g. ‘Put your toys away and then we’ll read a book.’
• Learns new words very rapidly and is able to use them in communicating.
• Moves freely and with pleasure and confidence in a range of ways, such as slithering, shuffling, rolling, crawling, walking, running, jumping, skipping, sliding and hopping.
• Turns pages in a book, sometimes several at once.
Personal, Social and emotional development
• Beginning to understand ‘yes’, ‘no’ and some boundaries.
• Interacts with others and explores new situations when supported by familiar person.
• Listens to and joins in with stories and poems, one-to-one and also in small groups.
• Links sounds to letters, naming and sounding the letters of the alphabet.
• Shows an interest in representing numbers.
• Associates a sequence of actions with daily routines.
Understanding the world
• Enjoys joining in with family customs and routines.
• Comments and asks questions about aspects of their familiar world such as the place where they live or the natural world.
Expressive arts and design
• Captures experiences and responses with a range of media, such as music, dance and paint and other materials or words.
• Plays alongside other children who are engaged in the same theme.
